RAPID CITY, S.D. -- January 8, 2016 -- Billy Johnson went for 21 points, including 5-for-10 from three-point range, but it was not enough to overcome a 23.8% shooting performance by the rest of the Chadron State men, as the Eagles (5-7, 3-5 RMAC) fell 73-56 on Friday evening to the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology (7-5, 5-3 RMAC) at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
SDSM&T was 6-of-7 from long range, and finished hitting 59.1% of their field goals. Sophomore guard Jaisean Jackson put up 27 points and seven rebounds. Brian Orr had 15 points and Troy Whiteto added 10.
CSC got out to an early and brief lead, but the Hardrockers took it back at 15:06 in the first half, and never again relinquished it. After falling behind by 13 just following the first half media break, the Eagles fought back to cut their opponents lead to 26-22 at 3:36 in the half, on a pair of free throws and a jumper by
Davante McCallam. However the Eagles hit only one more field goal in the half, and saw the gap gradually increase in the second half.
No other Chadron State players scored in double figures. Senior
Jay Feltson hit three of his four free throws and grabbed eight boards to lead the team in rebounding, but the Hardrockers won on the glass by five.
The Eagle men travel to Spearfish, South Dakota, tomorrow night. They will play Black Hills State University, who they defeated 74-69 at home on December 11, at approximately 6 p.m.
