CHADRON, Neb. -- November 22, 2016 -- Montana State University Billings (2-3) went for 20 offensive rebounds on Tuesday night at Chadron State College (0-3), finishing on top of the rebounding margin 45 to 28 as the Eagles dropped their third game of the season at home.
Chadron State was able to get 13 points from their bench in the first half - by way of
Michael Johnson's team-high nine first period points and
Austin Hall's four. However, second chance points overwhelmed the Eagles in the second half as turnovers mounted. CSC had 13 giveaways in the second half which went for 20 points the other way.
The Yellowjackets led by as many as 13 in the first half, but CSC was able to shave off six points in the final three minutes of the opening stanza to go into halftime down only four, 41-37.
Chadron State was caught without starters
Jordan Perry and
Myles Busby for about three minutes in the second half, which contributed to an 18-2 run by the visitors over a six minute span. Only Perry, who picked up his third foul 16 seconds into the second half, had more than one field goal in the final 20 minutes finishing 2-of-5 from the field on the night. Billings went on to win by a final score of 89-69.
Leading the Eagles on the scoreboard were Johnson and
Darius Polley, who each contributed 13 points. Johnson, who fouled out with 7:27 remaining led the way shooting 5-of-7 from the field.
Warren Gordon added 11 points and led the team with five assists.
Leading the Yellowjackets was Christian Evans with 23 points and 13 rebounds.
The Eagles as a team shot 2-for-11 from three-point range.
CSC will play again on Saturday, hosting the University of Nebraska-Kearney at 2 p.m. in Chicoine Center.
