GOLDEN, Neb. -- November 27, 2016 -- Chadron State College wrestlers won the final five matches in a dual meet at Colorado School of Mines on Sunday to rally from a 15-6 deficit to defeat the Orediggers at home, 25-15.
The Eagles got six points from
Chance Helmick at 174 in the first half of the meet, when he was the only CSC wrestler to score out of the first five weight classes, which began at 149 pounds. Helmick, ranked preseason No. 5 in Super Region 4, scored a second period pin over CSM's No. 8 Robert Gambrell.
Cooper Cogdill at 285 tied things up, outlasting his opponent SR4 No. 6 Ian Cheatum who withdrew due to injury. Cogdill was up 4-1, just 19 seconds into the second period, when the match was stopped, awarding Cogdill six points and tying the team score at 15 apiece.
Then the score turned for good toward CSC at 125 pounds, as
Brandon Kile battled to a 4-0 decision over SR4 No. 6 Zachary Gracia, avenging last year's NCAA regional quarterfinal loss.
Taylor Summers added the only major decision for the Eagles at 133 pounds, winning 13-3 over No. 5 Noah Au-yeung. Summers is the No. 2-ranked wrestler in the region.
Other Eagles scoring points for their team were
Matthew Kindler at 197 pounds and
Brock Thumm at 141. Thumm, who is unranked, closed out the match winning 8-3 over Mines freshman Jake Woods. Kindler scored a 10-3 decision over Brandon Saunders at 197.
The Eagles will be traveling to Kenosha, Wisconsin, this week for the December 3 Wisconsin Open at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
