Fourth quarter dooms CSC women in Spearfish

SPEARFISH, S.D. – December 17, 2016 – Chadron State College (2-7, 2-4 RMAC) got a season-high 21 points from Erin Graham, but a 29-4 fourth quarter in favor of Black Hills State University (2-8, 2-4 RMAC) and a 26-12 turnover deficit for the Eagles led to a decisive 79-48 final score, with the Yellow Jackets on top.

"For the most part we fought, but we struggled to shut them down," said CSC head women's basketball coach Janet Raymer. "A lot of our offense comes from our defense. We weren't able to play it tonight, so we weren't able to do the things we like to do. Against a team that's bigger and stronger, that makes it hard for us to score."

BHSU got out to a 7-0 early lead, but the Eagles were able to tie it up twice in the first half. They went into halftime down 27-22.

Through three quarters, the Yellow Jackets never led by double digits, but that changed early in the fourth, when the Eagles committed five turnovers and missed their first seven field goals before breaking the scoring drought with 4:13 left and a 23-point lead for BHSU.

Graham's 21 points and Kalli Feddersen's 13 accounted for 34 of the Eagles' 48 points. Feddersen led with three assists, while she and Leticia Rodriguez tied for the team lead with seven rebounds apiece.
BHSU's Sierra Toms (14 points), Abby Switzer (14), Keely Bertram (13), and Cheyanne Balster (10) all finished with double digit scoring for the Yellow Jackets. Black Hills State deployed 12 players, with none playing more than 24 minutes in the game.

The Eagles are off for a couple of weeks until they hit the floor again on December 30, hosting Fort Lewis College. The game is expected to start at approximately 5:30, pending the conclusion of the Chadron Rotary Holiday Basketball Tournament.
