Eagle rally cut short in fourth quarter at MSU Denver

DENVER – February 10, 2017 – The Chadron State College women overcame a 19-4 start to the game to tie the game through three quarters, but the MSU Denver Roadrunners raced the visiting Eagles to a 74-66 finish on Friday evening in Denver.

Chadron State falls to 6-15, 6-12 RMAC, while MSU Denver goes to 15-10, 11-11 in league play.

The Eagles gave up only three 3-pointers all game, however the MSU Denver Roadrunners went into the paint to get 42 of their 74 points. Roadrunner post Georgia Ohrdorf put up a game-high 27 points. The home team had a 17 to 9 offensive rebounding advantage in the game and led 50 to 30 in overall boards.

Following the early surge by the Roadrunners, CSC hit four of their next eight from three-point range to close the gap by the early third period. The Eagles found their only lead of the game at 39-38 with 1:29 remaining in the third quarter, and held the home team to a 43-43 tie going into the final frame.

Chadron State, who had 51 points in the second half, could not keep up with a huge fourth quarter by the Roadrunners, who scored 31 points. Ohrdorf and J'Nae Squires-Horton both scored double digits in that period alone as MSU Denver preserved the win.

Kylah Collins led the Eagles with 16 points. Leticia Rodriguez kept up her increased scoring pace, getting 13 points with six rebounds. Rodriguez has averaged 13 over her last four games after getting 7.1 per game through the first 17.

Maddie Metzger matched her season high with 12 points, and Kalli Fedderson also scored 12.

The Eagles are on the road again Saturday at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, who they defeated 83-63 last season in Colorado Springs.
