HAYS, Kansas -- April 29, 2017 -- Several Chadron State College track and field athletes placed high Friday during a meet at Fort Hays State in Kansas.
Two sprinters from Rock Springs, Wyo., had career-best marks in the 200 meters for the Eagles.
Cory Salitrik won the men's race in 22.54 seconds and Cassie Johnson was second in the women's race in 25.82. Johnson also ran on the Eagles' winning 4x100 relay. The other team members were
Alisha Heelan, Maddie Brashears and
BrookLynn York.
Brashears also was the runner-up in the long jump with a season-best leap of 18 feet, 6 inches.
CSC women also placed high in the shot put and hammer throw.
Freshmen
Ashton Hallsted and
Danielle Weyer were second and third in the shot put with marks just an inch and a half apart. Hallsted threw 40- ¾ and Weyer hit 39-11 ¼.
Three Eagles had marks just three feet, five inches apart in the hammer while placing second, third and fourth. Senior
Keri Ruff led the trio at 157-5. Hallstead and Weyer were third and fourth, respectively.
Chadron State senior
David Aldridge was second in the men's shot at 47-6 ½ and fifth in the discus at 145-8. Also, senior
Frantzlee LaCrete had a season-best mark of 161-2 while placing fifth in the hammer throw.
Besides the host Fort Hays Tigers, athletes from numerous Kansas community colleges entered in the meet.
