ALAMOSA, Colo. -- January 5, 2019 -- Chadron State wrestlers competed in two events at different schools on Saturday. One part of the squad fell 28-12 to the host Adams State University Grizzles in a dual, while several other members of the team competed at the Hastings College Cusatis Open in Nebraska.

As on Friday against New Mexico Highlands, the Eagles left the 125-pound division open for a forfeit win and a six-point head start for ASU. CSC managed to win four of the remaining nine matches, however there were not enough bonus points to make up the difference.

Chase Clasen, Jake Otuafi, Matt Hebel, and Wade French each won for the second consecutive day, finishing the weekend 2-0. At 165 pounds, Tate Allison fought off the bottom in the first and second periods against ASU's returning national qualifier Koery Windham, but succumbed to a 4-3 decision for the Grizzly wrestler.

The Eagles are now 2-2 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference duals, and 3-3 overall.

In Hastings, seven wrestlers - some unattached and others representing CSC - went into battle.

Of those, freshman heavyweight Mason Watt, wrestling unattached, was the most successful. Watt went 4-2 with three pins to come within one match of placing in the tournament.

Johnny Porter also had a winning record, going 3-2 in the 165-pound bracket, and Alex Mai split his first four matches of the season at heavyweight.

CSC will be back in southern Colorado on Thursday evening for another RMAC dual at CSU-Pueblo.
