THORNTON, Colo. -- September 14, 2020 -- On Monday the season began for the Chadron State College women's golf team, as they opened play at the Swan Memorial at Todd Creek Golf Club in Thornton.

A pair of Eagles finished Monday's first round among the top 15 individually, and the team heads into Tuesday's second and final round sitting in fifth place out of nine teams, all members of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Sophomore Alpine Hickstein of Chadron led the way for the Eagles, shooting par on 14 of 18 holes to record a 78 and head into Tuesday tied for 11th place.

Freshman Allison Acosta of Tucson, Arizona, fired an even 80 to tie for 15th.

Freshman Kinsey Smith of Windsor, Colorado, and Sophomore Kayla Elder of nearby Fort Collins each tied for 24th with identical scores of 85.

Kenzey Kanno, a freshman from Mitchell, Nebraska, rounded out the Eagles who scored, shooting the team's only birdie of the day and landing at 87.

The Eagles' 330 strokes were only two more than fourth-place Colorado Christian University, the event's host. Westminster College of Salt Lake City led with 301 strokes after one round.
