CHADRON, Neb. -- November 23, 2021 -- The Chadron State College women's basketball team (1-3, 0-0 RMAC) will face their final non-conference opponent of the season when they travel to face the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers (3-1, 0-0 MIAA) for a 1 p.m. MT intrastate showdown Saturday afternoon.
Even after moving from the RMAC to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) in 2012, the Lopers have been an annual foe for the Eagles, dating all the way back to Chadron State's inaugural 1973 season. The two teams did not play each other last year due to the shortened, conference-only schedule.
In the 48-year long history between the two schools, the Eagles are 13-75 against Kearney. Their last win came during the 2011-12 season in a 64-60 nail biter.
Nebraska-Kearney is coming off a huge 76-57 home win over #23 Colorado School of Mines (3-1, 0-0 RMAC) last weekend. They shot 48.3% on field goals (29-60) while holding the Orediggers to only 31.7% on field goals (20-63). Leading the way for the upset was Trinity Law, who led the team in three-pointers (4-8), steals (1), and total points (18).
Kearney also took care of business three days prior against Peru State College (6-4, 1-0 HAAC), routing the Bobcats 100-56.
Before taking on the Eagles, the Lopers will face NAIA opponent College of Saint Mary (7-2, 1-2 GPAC) on Wednesday.
The Nebraska-Kearney Lopers are coached by veteran head coach Carrie Eighmey. She is assisted by Devin Eighmey, Bailey Morris, Parker Ehrke, and Maddie Wiltse.
