CHADRON, Neb. -- December 15, 2021 -- The Chadron State College women's basketball team (3-6, 2-2 RMAC) is set to host UCCS (3-6, 1-2 RMAC) and New Mexico Highlands (3-6, 0-3 RMAC) for more Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action this weekend.
Due to the Fall Commencement Ceremony to be held in the Chicoine Center Friday the 17th, the CSC's games were each pushed back to Saturday and Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. on both days.
Chadron State is 12-24 all-time against UCCS. Their last win against the Mountain Lions came in a high-scoring 78-74 thriller in Colorado Springs during the 2019-20 season. Star guard Taryn Foxen had 33 points that game, and the team shot 86.4% on free throws (19-22).
The Eagles lost both games against UCCS last year during the shortened season, so they will be looking for revenge come Saturday.
Offensively leading the Mountain Lions is 6-foot-2-inch forward Jasmine Jeffcoat, who leads UCCS in field goals made (42), points (102), and points per game (11.3). She also has 34 offensive rebounds and 3.8 offensive rebounds per game, both of which are the highest in the RMAC.
The defensive leader for UCCS is forward Agar Farres. She leads the team with 41 defensive rebounds, which ranks eighth-best in the league.
The UCCS Mountain Lions are coached by veteran head coach Lynn Plett. He is assisted by Liz Doran.
CSC is currently 26-15 all-time against the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls. The last time the two teams met was near the end of the 2019-20 season in which the Eagles came out on top 72-66. Foxen had 31 points that game, and the Eagles scored 40 total second-half points to close out the game. Highlands did not compete last year, due to New Mexico travel restrictions.
The Eagles will have to account for senior guard Jordyn Lewis on Sunday. Lewis has been the offensive workhorse for the Cowgirls so far in the young season. Currently, she leads the team in field goals made (33), field goals attempted (111), three-pointers made (16), three-pointers attempted (62), free throws made (31), free throws attempted (42), and free throw percentage (73.8%).
Lewis's 31 made free throws rank behind CSC's Ashayla Powers, who is second in the league with 37. Lewis also ranks just behind Samiyah Worrell, who currently is in sixth place in the league with 17 three-pointers.
The New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls are coached by head coach Garett Sherman, who is assisted by Olivia Fouty.
