Box Score 2 ALAMOSA, Colo. – April 10, 2021 – The Adams State University Grizzlies batted nearly .500 on Saturday, allowing only four earned runs. ASU turned a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games against the Chadron State College Eagles early in both contests, for a pair of five-inning wins – 13-4 and 10-2, in Alamosa.
A pair of Grizzlies were 4-for-5 at the plate. Infielder Tyler Hays had five RBI and five runs scored with three walks and a home run. Utility pitcher Jade Garbiso followed with four RBI, one run, and a walk.
CSC briefly held a 2-1 lead in the top of the second, in the first game of the day, before ASU came roaring back.
The bottom of the second for the Grizzlies allowed them four walks, four base hits, and two fielding errors, as ASU established an 8-2 lead.
Five more runs crossed for Adams in the third, as the Grizzlies got three more hits and benefited from three more errors to cruise to a 13-4 win by run rule.
CSC's
Peyton Propp took the lead pitching role for the Eagles in game one, but she gave up the first eight runs, dropping to 3-9 on the season. ASU's Jade Garbiso improved to 4-5.
Despite a 3-for-3 showing at the plate by freshman right fielder
Jessie Henchenski in the later game, and a 2-for-2 batter's box performance by fellow rookie
Samantha Conradie, the ASU squad piled up a 7-0 lead by the end of the second inning, and finished the game, again by run rule, by the fifth.
An ASU run had already crossed by the first inning. Seven base hits and an error by CSC created a massive, six-hit second inning for Adams, which put the Grizzlies up 7-0.
The two teams went tit-for-tat over two more innings, before Hays came through with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, which was a walkoff for the Grizzlies.
Sophomore pitcher Taylor Sandoval advanced to 2-7, for the season, with the win.
Another doubleheader commences at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
