Reynolds shatters hammer record again, nine win in Kearney

KEARNEY, Neb. – April 15, 2022 – The Chadron State College track and field team racked up nine event wins on Friday, and Daniel Reynolds continued to break CSC throwing records, at the Loper Invitational in Kearney on Friday.

"It was just another cold, windy day," said CSC Head Track and Field Coach Riley Northrup. "We had great efforts from the athletes all around, but I'm just looking forward to getting some nice weather one of these days so we can see the great performances that many of them are ready for. Improved national marks from Shane [Collins], Dan [Reynolds], and Morgan [Fawver] on the mens side, and a great day jumping for Jourdaine on the womens side, should put them all in contention for getting to the national meet."

Sophomore Daniel Reynolds shattered his own school record, set in March, by nearly two meters, going 62.02 meters in the hammer throw for the win. His winning mark of 62.02 meters currently ranks fifth in NCAA Division II and is the first over 200 feet in CSC history.

Fellow Sophomore Shane Collins' hammer throw was his first over 60 meters, marking 60.11 meters to register second at the meet and 10th nationally.

Another from the same class, Morgan Fawver, leapt 7.39 meters in the men's long jump. He won the event, but more importantly, he increased his mark on the national stage to ninth, putting himself squarely in the NCAA Division II field for nationals.

Yet another sophomore, Derrick Nwagwu, won the men's triple jump with a mark of 15.01 meters. It wasn't a career best, but surpassed his seasonal marks from three previous meets. He moved to ninth in the current season.

On the women's side, sophomore Jourdaine Cerenil set a new personal best, indoor or outdoor, by clearing 1.73 meters in the high jump. She ranks eighth nationally.

Other CSC wins included freshman Quincy Efeturi in the men's 100 and 200 meters, the Eagles' men's 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Osiel and Osvaldo Cano, Greg Logson, and Brodie Roden, and Carlie Collier in the women's 100 meters.
