RAPID CITY, S.D. – September 19, 2022 – The Chadron State College golf team got out in front of the pack on Monday at The Golf Club at Red Rock, taking the team lead at the Fall Hardrocker Invite in Rapid City. The Eagles led by 10 strokes at 332 after one round of golf.
Senior
Alpine Hickstein led the way for CSC, shooting a five-over-par 77 to enter Tuesday in second place individually. She led the field in holes fired at even par, and added two birdies.
The other three scoring players, as well as two freshmen entered as individual golfers, ranged in the low to mid-80s.
"We expected our scores to be a little higher than last week," said CSC Head Golf Coach John Ritzen, "due to the difficulty of the course, but we had a few ladies play really well. It was nice to see Alpine have a good round after not playing her best last week. I was really happy with how our freshmen played in the individual spots."
The Eagles played against two teams apiece from host South Dakota Mines and nearby Black Hills State, plus Montana State-Billings and Minot State. They led one of the host teams, at second place, in the team standings.
That team's Rianna Garland was ahead of Hickstein by one stroke after 18 holes.
Play resumes tomorrow with a tee time start.
