GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. --Two Chadron State College men placed
Friday afternoon as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Track and Field Meet got underway in Grand Junction, Colo.
Senior
Alec Penfield of Lusk, Wyo., placed fifth in the high jump by clearing 6-foot, 4 ¼ inches and junior
Christopher Jennings of O'Neill was eighth in the hammer throw with a career-best mark of 166-4 ¼. Jennings' previous best was 160-9.
Coach Jake Gruver also was proud of another Chadron State hammer thrower. Freshman
Caleb Christensen of Guernsey, Wyo., didn't place, but he threw the hammer 151-7 ½, more than nine feet farther than ever before.
The women's hammer throw also was
Friday afternoon, when CSC senior
Madyson Schliep of Grand Island almost placed. She finished ninth with a mark of 158-5 ½, about three feet shy of earning a point. Schliep's mark was just 3 ½ inches from matching her career-best.
The conference meet will continue Saturday and Sunday. Chadron State hosted last year's meet, when seniors
Kyla Sawvell and
Shane Collins were the hammer throw gold medalists.
