Looking Back
Chadron State suffered a pair of road losses back on December 12 and 14, falling 72-61 to CSU Pueblo and 82-66 to UCCS. The ThunderWolves and Mountain Lions are a combined 7-1 in RMAC play so far.
RECAPS:
CSU Pueblo |
UCCS
The Eagles finished strong in both games, outscoring CSU Pueblo 18-9 in the fourth quarter and outscoring UCCS 38-35 in the second half of last month's defeats.
On a Roll
One player looking to pick up where she left off over winter break is junior
Kylie Krise, who has led the team in scoring during three of the Eagles' last four games, including two career-high outputs.
Back on December 12-14, Krise led CSC in scoring twice and averaged seven rebounds per game. Krise scored 11 points with three made three-pointers against CSU Pueblo before going off for a career-high 25 points against the Mountain Lions.
Against UCCS, Krise shot 6 of 9 from the field, made two threes, and hit 11 of 14 free-throw attempts to rank among the top five in most free throw attempts in a game by an RMAC player this year. Krise's 25-point career-high surpassed her previous career high of 23 set twice, including on December 5 against South Dakota Mines.
On the season, Krise is averaging 11.4 points per game (third on the team) and 5.2 rebounds per game (second on the team).
Basket Counts
Junior forward
Megan Counts had her best performance of the year against UCCS, finishing with 15 points to more than double her previous season high of seven.
Counts was 4-for-5 from the field, sinking one three-pointer, and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line. Counts also grabbed four rebounds and recorded two blocks, swatting multiple shots for the first time in 2024-25.
Counts, who was CSC's second-leading scorer a season ago with 7.6 points per game, is averaging 4.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per contest this season so far.
Hold The Line
Speaking of contributors from last season, Chadron State welcomed one back to the lineup as
Liberty Line played for the first time in 2024-25 against CSU Pueblo and UCCS.
Line, a redshirt junior guard from Parker, Colorado, led the Eagles in games played (25) and started (23) last season, but injury kept her out of CSC's first eight games of this season.
In her return, Line came off the bench to log 10 minutes against CSU Pueblo and 18 minutes against UCCS. Line scored five points with five rebounds against Pueblo, then added seven points, three rebounds and a steal against the Mountain Lions.
Go-To Girls
Chadron State will welcome two of the RMAC's top four scorers to the Chicoine Center this weekend.
Regis's Erin Fry ranks third in the RMAC and 10
th in all of Division II by averaging 20.2 points per game. Fry has scored 16 points or more in every game this season and has two 25+ point games, including a 31-point outing against New Mexico Highlands. Fry has also recorded 10 or more assists three times.
Colorado School of Mines guard Jenna Siebert is fourth in the league with 16.1 points per game. Siebert has had more volatility in her scoring, finishing in single digits twice and going over 20 points just three times, but she scored 34 points to lead Mines to an upset win over then-No. 9 Minnesota State and has two 26-point RMAC games on her ledger this season.
The league's top two scorers, CSU Pueblo's Alisha Little and Colorado Mesa's Olivia Reed, are also due to visit the Chicoine Center later this season, on February 8 and January 25, respectively. Little (23.5 points per game) and Reed (22.0 ppg) are each among the top five scorers in the nation.
Stat Snapshots
Chadron State has been one of the best offensive teams in the RMAC, as they currently rank fifth in the league by averaging 65.2 points per game. Additionally, the Eagles are seventh in field goal percentage (.394), seventh in three-point percentage (.303) and third in free-throw percentage (.791).
The Eagles have rebounded well also, ranking second in the conference in overall team rebounds per game (38.4). The downside for CSC has been on defense, as the Eagles allow 76.3 points per contest, while the Eagles also have the lowest turnover margin in the league at -7.40.

Record Output
The Eagles' scoring prowess has been highlighted by a 92-point game against York University on November 25. The 92 points is the most points Chadron State has scored in a single game since the Eagles defeated New Mexico Highlands 102-99 in double overtime during the 2013-14 season.
In games that remained in regulation, it was CSC's first overall 90-point game since beating Regis 91-54 in 2009-10 and the most points in regulation for CSC since the Eagles beat Johnson & Wales 98-70 all the way back in 2008-09.
In the Polls
Currently, no RMAC schools are ranked in either the WBCA Coaches Poll or the D2CSC Media Poll. The Eagles have faced multiple teams that are either ranked over receiving votes in both polls, including Montana State Billings (No. 5 in WBCA, No. 9 in D2CSC), and Southwest Minnesota State (No. 25/RV).
The D2CSC Regional Polls rank four RMAC schools among the top 10 in the South Central region – CSU Pueblo at No. 5, Black Hills State at No. 6, Western Colorado at No. 7 and Colorado Mesa at No. 10. The Eagles have faced CSU Pueblo and Black Hills State so far this year.
In a vote of the league's head coaches, Chadron State women's basketball earned a 13
th-place projection in the RMAC Preseason Coaches Poll, one spot higher than the Eagles finished in an injury-riddled year last season.
Five different schools received first-place votes in the poll, fitting for a conference that had a four-way tie for the regular season title last season. Colorado Mesa, the only RMAC school to reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season, led the poll, followed by UCCS, CSU Pueblo, Adams State, Colorado School of Mines and Regis.
MSU Denver and Colorado Christian snared the final RMAC Tournament positions in the preseason poll, followed by Black Hills State, Western Colorado, South Dakota Mines and Fort Lewis. After the Eagles in 13
th, the poll is rounded out by New Mexico Highlands and Westminster.
Scouting the Orediggers
After finishing fifth last season and being picked fifth in the RMAC preseason poll, the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers are off to a 3-9 start with a 1-3 record in RMAC play.
The Orediggers have played a tough schedule, however – at one point, Mines played four games in a row against teams ranked in the top 12 nationally, going 1-3 with a win over then-No. 9 Minnesota State. In the RMAC, Mines has lost to Adams State, New Mexico Highlands and Colorado Mesa and defeated Westminster.
The Orediggers have three double-figure scorers, led by redshirt junior Jenna Siebert, who ranks fourth in the RMAC with 16.1 points per game, alongside redshirt senior Josephine Howery and sophomore Emma Sixta (both averaging 11.3 per game).
Colorado School of Mines averages 64.4 points per game and allows 70.3. The Orediggers rank fourth in the RMAC in field goal percentage, but are just 13
th in three-point percentage. Mines is led by 13
th-year head coach Brittany Simpson, who has led the Orediggers to RMAC titles in 2016, 2021 and 2022 as well as five NCAA Tournament berths.
Scouting the Rangers
The Regis Rangers are currently 5-6 overall with a 3-1 record in RMAC play. The Rangers' overall record includes four-point losses to nationally-ranked Minnesota State and Fort Hays State. In the RMAC, the Rangers have beat New Mexico Highlands, Fort Lewis and Colorado Mesa while losing to Western Colorado.
Regis is coming off a banner 2023-24 season, when the team finished 26-6. The team was part of a four-way tie for the regular season title, then knocked off Colorado Christian, Adams State and UCCS on its way to its second consecutive RMAC Tournament championship. Regis then lost to UT Tyler in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Rangers feature senior guard Erin Fry heavily. Fry ranks third in the RMAC and 10
th in Division II by averaging 20.6 points per game, and also leads the NCAA in minutes per game with 39.20, meaning she is on the bench for only 40 seconds of game time on average.
Senior guard Athena Saragoza is averaging 14.8 points per game while sophomore Fiona Snashall puts up 10.4 points and 8.8 rebounds per contest. Snashall has 10 or more rebounds in her last three games for the Rangers. 10
th-year head coach Molly Marrin leads the program having won 60 percent of her games during her tenure.
Coach's Corner
Head Coach Travis Brewster is back for his second season leading the Chadron State women's basketball program.
A veteran head coach, Brewster was previously a head coach at the University of North Dakota for eight seasons, going 128-120 with the Fighting Hawks and winning two Big Sky Coach of the Year awards in 2014 and 2017. In his time at UND, Brewster won two Big Sky co-regular season championships and one Big Sky tournament championship with one NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014 and one WNIT appearance in 2017.
He was also a head coach for two seasons with Saint Xavier (NAIA), where he put together a 45-16 record. He was the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Coach of the Year in 2022, a year he also led Saint Xavier to a conference championship and NAIA national tournament berth.
As a student-athlete, Brewster competed at Iowa Lakes Community College and Charleston Southern University before playing professionally in Switzerland and Ireland.
