Damarcus Simpson qualified automatically for NCAAs in just his second collegiate attempt since winning the national outdoor title in 2015. He went 7.66m (25-1.75") in long jump to become the NCAA DII leader and the lone auto-qualifier in the event. His mark is nearly six inches longer than this time last year. Simpson also qualified provisionally in the 60 meter dash, winning his heat and finishing tied for second in the preliminary round behind last year's Mountain West bronze medal winner. However, he did not participate in the finals.
