RAPID CITY, S.D. -- December 16, 2016 -- The Chadron State College women's basketball team (2-6, 2-3 RMAC) got win number two on the season Friday night at South Dakota School of MInes & Technology (3-7, 1-4 RMAC), creating turnovers and shooting well out of the gate in a 69-64 victory.
"Late in the game," said CSC head women's coach
Janet Raymer, "we gave up a couple of things - a three pointer here, a drive there - but overall, we were finally able to execute the defense that we wanted to. I was very happy about that. For the most part we did a great job of covering up the spots that we wanted to cover."
The Eagles went on a 15-2 run to begin the evening, and led for all but one minute, 16 seconds in the second quarter. They built double digit leads in both the first and third quarters, and did what they needed to do down the stretch to close out the game.
Leading the CSC scorers was
Erin Graham, whose 19 points were her highest since scoring 20 at Wyoming in the season opener. She added four assists.
Kylah Collins finished with a 54.5 field goal percentage, hitting 6-of-11 from the floor to record 14 points and also grabbed eight rebounds,
The Eagles got a brilliant overall night from
Kalli Feddersen, who came either two assists or three steals away from a triple-double, finishing with 10 points and 10 boards.
"We were maybe a little more focused than I thought we'd be tonight," said Raymer. "Going into Christmas Break, I was concerned with our focus level, and whether they'd be willing to show up and work, and they surely did."
Chadron State will play its last game before the break on Saturday afternoon, clashing with Black Hills State at 4 p.m. in Spearfish.
