LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- December 3, 2016 -- Chadron State College head women's basketball coach
Janet Raymer got her first career win Saturday night at Colorado Christian University (2-5, 0-2 RMAC).
"We worked hard for 40 minutes," said Raymer. "We pushed the ball every time, took a lot better shots, and were patient on offense, Those times when we had hard time moving the ball, we didn't force shots. We grew tonight."
CSC shot .435 from the floor - their best shooting percentage for a game so far this season.
The Eagles (1-4, 1-1 RMAC) took a permanent advantage midway through the first quarter and ran out to as wide a lead as 15 points in the second.
The game tightened in the third and fourth quarters, as the Cougars got to the foul line and shot well from there. CCU's Kaitlyn Hinch landed all four of her shots from the foul stripe under five minutes left in the game, getting her team back to within one at 62-61 CSC with 1:34 to play.
Colorado Christian had a couple opportunities to take their first lead in nearly 35 minutes when CSC committed a turnover at 1:19 on the clock. However
Kendra Baucom came up with a timely block and
Kylah Collins came up with two big rebounds to put the Eagles back on offense with 20 seconds remaining.
Kalli Feddersen took over in the waning seconds of the game, knocking down five of six free throws and taking a key charge which put the game effectively out of reach with seven seconds left.
Havannah Newens added the last two points from the foul line to set the final score, 69-64.
Feddersen's 15 points were a team high, as were the nine rebounds from Collins who finished as the second-leading scorer with 13 points in only 19 minutes.
"Kalli put everything out there tonight," said Raymer. "She was in a lot of pain tonight but worked hard through every play."
Newens and
Erin Graham each had 11 points, and
Leticia Rodriguez had a season high nine.
Chadron State is back at home on Friday, December 9, hosting the University of Colorado Colorado Springs at 5:30 p.m.
