Colorado Springs topples Chadron State women's team

CHADRON — December 9, 2016 — Colorado-Colorado Springs put 12 players in the scoring column Friday night while taking a 73-58 victory over Chadron State in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball game.

The Mountain Lions led from start to finish while improving their record to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference.  They led 34-19 at halftime and were ahead by as many as 31 points early in the fourth quarter before the Eagles closed out the game with a 20-4 run.

Colorado Springs shot 44.4 percent (28-63) from the field while the Eagles hit just 28 percent (17-61).

Senior guard Jen Vigil and freshman center Anna Schwecke each scored 12 points to lead the Lions.  All of Vigil's total came on 3-pointers while Schwecke was six of seven on short shots around the rim.  Another freshman, Christin Vigil, Jen's sister, chipped in 11 points while playing 11 minutes.

Chadron State guard Kalli Feddersen was the game's leading scorer with 18 points, including eight of nine shooting from the free throw line. CSC's Letty Rodriguez, a 5-6 guard, was six of six at the line while contributing 13 points and was the game's top rebounder with eight.

"We just didn't play well tonight," said CSC coach Janet Raymer.  "We didn't move the ball like I hoped we would, didn't shoot it well and let them get a lot of open shots."

The Eagles were coming off their first victory of the season.  They will be back at home tonight (Saturday) to host Metro State, which lost to Regis 67-62 Friday night and is now 6-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
