BOULDER, Colo. -- February 4, 2017 -- Chadron State College track and field athletes continued to demonstrate excellent consistency Saturday during the University of Colorado Invitational Meet in Boulder.
Nearly 20 Eagles placed, several of them twice, at the meet, which included entries from four NCAA Division I schools, several Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference members and a number of unattached athletes who have completed their collegiate eligibility but are continuing to compete.
"In a lot of the events, the best competition was the best we'll see all year," said CSC coach
Brad Gamble. "Many of the marks were right at the athletes' career bests and were good enough to earn high placings."
Senior
Mel Herl won the 20-pound weight throw by nine feet when she hit 70 feet, 10 ¼ inches. She also was third in the shot put with an indoor best of 48- ¾.
All-American
Stachia Reuwsaat was third in both the 60-meter dash in 7.54 seconds and the long jump at 19-7.Â
Tessa Gorsuch also was third in the 60-meter high hurdles in 8.64 seconds. Her time of 8.52 in the preliminaries was just two-hundredths of a second off her school record.
In other women's events, both Cassie Johnson and
Sierra Martinez ran the 400 meters in under 50 seconds for the first times in their careers indoors.
In the men's competition, Chadron State entries earned third place in five events. They were 60-meter dash—
Javan Lanier, 6.93 seconds; shot put—
Blake Jacobs, 53-9 ¾; 35-pound weight throw—
