LAMAR, Colo. – Chadron State College senior
Cinch Kiger continued his hot start to the fall season by placing second in bareback riding last weekend at the rodeo hosted by Lamar College in southern Colorado, and two more CSC
contestants finished fourth in their events.
Kiger placed se
cond in both bareback go-rounds, earning 73 and 75 points. He also was se
cond in the overall standings. Through the first four rodeos in the Central Rocky Mountain Region this fall, the Overton, Nebraska, cowboy has been the winner twice and the runner-up twice.
Kiger currently has the lead in the NIRA bareback riding regional standings with 465 points, a 165-point advantage over Central Wyoming's Eian Smith in second. Otero's Monte Downare is third with 245 points, while Lamar's Ayden Smith is fourth with 200.
Another Chadron State bareback rider, sophomore
Tanner Olson of Gordon, finished fourth in the event at Lamar, scoring 69 and 71 points on his two rides.
Makayla Wray, a junior from Ord, was the other CSC placewinner, finishing fourth among the 101 breakaway ropers. She caught her first calf in 2.6 se
conds to snare one of the 10 coveted spots in Sunday's finals, when she was one of only four to rope her se
cond calf, completing that run in 3.7 se
conds.
CSC senior and returning national qualifier
Brooke McCully of Mullen was among the 10 finalists in barrel racing, but knocked over a barrel on her se
cond run, ending her chances of placing among the top six and earn points.
The final rodeo on the region's fall schedule will be at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne from October 10-12.
