Cinch Kiger have each completed three preliminary runs at the College National Finals Rodeo, with the third appearance for each happening as part of Tuesday's night performance at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper, Wyoming.
Both Chadron competitiors will now need to wait until later in the week for the rest of the field to complete their prelims to see if their aggregate scores are enough to get in the top 12 and make the short-go finals on Saturday.
After an opening run of 14.47 seconds during Monday's slack, Romey dropped down to a 14.02 on Tuesday morning and was in 18th place out of 50 barrel racers after two runs.
The senior from Hot Springs, South Dakota was one of 12 barrel racers to take their third run during Tuesday's performance. Romey went quick again, crossing the line in 14.07 seconds, the third-fastest time of the night. Romey's three-run aggregate time of 42.56 is currently the second-fastest in the field out of those who have completed three runs.
Kiger was one of the first eight bareback riders to be up for their third run on Tuesday. A senior from Overton, Nebraska who earned the Central Rocky Mountain regional championship in bareback riding, Kiger received a score of 70.00 points for his first ride on Sunday, followed by a 67.00 during Monday's slack.
On Tuesday night, Kiger ensured he would score on all three attempts and turned in his highest mark of the competition with a score of 75.00. Kiger's three-run aggregate of 212.00 currently has the senior in seventh place.
The College National Finals Rodeo will continue with performances on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday night from Casper, with a Saturday short-go taking the top 12 qualifiers in each event to compete for a national championship.
