LOVELAND, Colo. – Senior
Cinch Kiger led the Chadron State College by placing second in bareback riding at the Colorado State University rodeo last weekend. Kiger scored 70 points on his first ride, then won the second go-round with an 80-point ride, and was the overall runner-up.
Kiger has been the bareback leader in the Central Rocky Mountain Region standings since he won the event at the first rodeo at Chadron State last September. He added 150 points to his total last weekend, when the rodeo was held at Loveland, and now has 1,005 points for the season. Eian Smith of Central Wyoming College, who is the bareback runner-up in the region behind Kiger with 720 points, won the event at CSU, scoring 79 and 74 points on his two rides.
Several other Chadron State contestants qualified for the finals last weekend, but did not place higher than sixth overall.
Sid Miller was sixth in tiedown roping with times of 11.4 and 10.7 seconds.
Pepper Rhyne and
Seth Glass also were sixth in team roping, completing their runs in 9.8 and 14.4 seconds after catching just one hind leg in the finals.
Morgan Rosander and
Bridget Romey finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in barrel racing. Rosander's times were 16.29 and 16.71 seconds and Romey's were 16.70 and 20.81, which included a five-second penalty for knocking over a barrel.
In addition,
Mary Gibson placed seventh in goat tying with 9.1- and 13.3-second marks. CSC's
Amanda Sellin and
Levi Noyes also were among the 10 team roping finalists, but they didn't get a score on their second run.
There are only two remaining rodeos in the region this season. They will be at Casper College on April 17-19 and the University of Wyoming on April 24-26.
