CASPER, Wyo. – Chadron State competitors
Bridget Romey and
Cinch Kiger both saw their seasons officially come to an end Friday night when they were eliminated shy of the short-go finals at the College National Finals Rodeo at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper, Wyoming.
Both Romey and Kiger had completed their preliminary runs on Tuesday, but needed to wait for other performances on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to see where their times or scores stacked up with the rest of the field.
Romey, a senior from Hot Springs, South Dakota, completed the barrel racing course three times in 14.47, 14.02 and 14.07 seconds. Her aggregate score of 14.56 seconds put her in 17th place out of 50 nationally-competing cowgirls. Romey missed out on the top 12 places that qualify for the short-go by two-tenths of a second.
Kiger, a senior from Overton, Nebraska, stayed on and earned a score on all three rides, something 10 of the 33 cowboys in the competition failed to do. With scores of 70.00, 67.00 and 75.00, Kiger ended the rodeo in 24th.
The top 12 competitors in each event will compete in the short-go as the College National Finals Rodeo concludes on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
