CHADRON, Neb. – Chadron State College cowboys and cowgirls will open their spring schedule this weekend at the Gillette College rodeo. Coach
Lane Day said CSC expects to have 50 entries.
Day said he believes the women's team will be even stronger than at was last fall when it was third in the team standings through the five rodeos. He said
Bridget Romey of Hot Springs and
Makayla Wray of Ord have recovered from injuries that sidelined them much of that schedule.
Brooke McCully of Mullen, who was first or second in breakaway roping at three rodeos last fall, built a 235-point lead in the event. Freshman Mejrusa Rustevovic of Kiowa, Colo., also won or placed high in barrel racing at a couple of the rodeos.
Day added that the CSC men's team has worked hard the past two months and hopes to improve its fifth place standing at the end of the fall slate. He noted the cowboys are competitive in all three timed events and bareback riding.
Senior
Jake Chasek of Mitchell was second in tie down roping at the end of the fall by placing among the top four in the event at three rodeos.
