LOVELAND, Colo. – It was a slow weekend for the Chadron State College rodeo team at the Colorado State University rodeo in Loveland.
The only CSC entries placing among the top six in their event were
Tanner Olson and
Cinch Kiger in bareback riding. Olson finished fifth while scoring 65 and 75 points on his two trips out of the chute for a total of 140 points. Kiger was sixth with 69 and 68 points for a 137 total.
Bridget Romey of Hot Springs, South Dakota, who the previous weekend at the Eastern Wyoming College rodeo won the barrel race that had 97 entries, did well in the first go-round at Loveland, placing fourth with a 15.48-second run. Romey's bid for another high finish ended in the short go-round, however, when she and her horse knocked over a barrel in Sunday's finals and were assessed a five-second penalty.
Two CSC cowgirls were among the 10 finalists in breakaway roping, which had 103 contestants at the CSU rodeo.
Mary Gibson of Havre, Montana, caught her first calf in 2.9 seconds and
Josie Anthony of Crofton, Nebraska, made her catch in 3.0 seconds. Neither of them were able to lasso her calf in the finals.
The fourth of the five spring rodeos in the Central Rocky Mountain Region will be this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 11-13 at Casper College.
