CHADRON, Neb. – Chadron State College senior Cinch Kiger continued to excel in bareback riding at the Sheridan College rodeo this past weekend, September 26-28.
Kiger was third in the first go-round with a 71-point ride and was first during the finals' go-round on Sunday with 80 points to win top honors in the event. He also was the bareback winner at the Chadron State rodeo the first weekend of September and was the runner-up at the second rodeo of the season at Central Wyoming College in Riverton on Sept. 19-21.
Kiger's good results give him 465 points through the first three rodeos in the Central Rocky Mountain Region this fall, good for first in the regional standings with a 165-point lead over the current runner-up.
Aside from Kiger's bareback win, Chadron State also had three placewinners in the tie down roping event at Sheridan, with Layne Palmer finishing second, Seth Glass third and Sid Miller fifth. Palmer also was the runner-up in both go-rounds with times of 14.1 and 15.4 seconds for a total of 29.5 seconds.
Glass was seventh in the opening go-round in 16 seconds flat and tied for third and fourth in the finals in 17-second flat.
Miller's times were 18.0 and 25.2 seconds, which included a 10-second penalty because he broke the barrier. He noted that all the tie down times were slower than usual because the setup allowed the calves to get a head start and they were fast runners.
A CSC freshman, Levi Noyes of Bighorn, Montana, also was fifth in the saddle bronc riding at Sheridan.
Senior barrel racer Bridget Romey of Hot Springs, who was fourth in that event at the CSC rodeo and won first at the Central Wyoming rodeo, got off to a great start by placing second in the first go-round at Sheridan in 17.57 seconds. However, her horse, Six, stumbled while they were approaching the first barrel in the finals and they broke the pattern, ending their run.
Senior Brooke McCully of Mullen was sixth in the first go-round of the barrels at Sheridan in 17.77 seconds, but she dd not place in the top six in the finals.
Lamar College in southern Colorado will host the region's rodeo this weekend.
