Eagles tied for second after round one

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. -- March 9, 2023 -- For the second time in as many days, the Chadron State golf team is in second place after round one, this time tied with Southwest Minnesota State.
 
The event, the SMSU Challenge, is hosted by Southwest Minnesota State but is played in Litchfield Park, Arizona, on the Wigwam Golf Course – Blue Course.
 
Both teams finished round one +34 (322).
 
Brooke Kramer had the best day for the Eagles, shooting a 77 (+5). Kramer finished with a double bogey on hole three and had a bogey on hole six and eight, finishing the front nine +4.
 
The junior from Aurora, Colorado, played good par golf on the back nine, except on hole 13, where she had a bogey.
 
Kramer is in fifth place heading to round two.
 
Alpine Hickstein, a senior from Chadron, finished two shots behind Kramer, shooting a 79 (+7)
 
Like her teammate, Hickstein shot better on the back nine than the front. Her day started with a double bogey on hole two and a stretch of three straight bogeys on holes 4-6.
 
Hickstein shot bogey on hole nine, finishing +6 on the front nine. Two bogeys appeared on the score card for Hickstein on holes 12 and 13, before a birdie on hole 17. She is currently tied sixth individually.
 
Jordan Grasis, a junior from Yuma, Arizona, finished round one with an 80 (+8)
 
Grasis had bogeys on her scorecard on holes four, six, and nine, and had a double bogey on hole eight, finishing the front nine +5
 
On the back nine, Grasis had a stretch of five holes without par. On holes 11 and 13, she shot birdie. Holes 12 and 14 were a bogey for Grasis and hole 15 was a double bogey.
 
She ended her day with another bogey on hole 18, placing her 10th individually.
 
Kenzey Kanno, a junior from Mitchell, shot a 43 on the front and back nine.
 
The front nine included three bogeys, a double bogey and a birdie, while the back nine had four bogeys and two double-bogeys.
 
Kanno is tied 27th individually after round one.
 
Kinsey Smith was the other Eagle golfer that was eligible to be apart of the team score.
 
Smith, a junior form Windsor, Colorado, finished the day +18 (90) and tied 35th individually.
 
One of Chadron State's golfer that is golfing unattached is Allison Acosta, a junior from Oro Valley, Arizona.
 
Acosta finished her day +4 (76) and tied third individually. After starting her day with a double bogey, Acosta had birdies on holes three and seven and bogeys on holes five and nine.
 
She shot bogey on holes 13, 15 and 16 and added another birdie on hole 11.
 
Payton Wise, CSC's other individual golfer, finished her round tied 23rd after shooting +12 (84)
 
Chadron State will play round two of the tournament tomorrow. They are 13 shots behind the leader, Wayne State College.
