SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Sophomore Lauren Knapp hit four birdies and an eagle during a round of 2-over 74, jumping 23 spots on the leaderboard, while fellow sophomore Macy Kleve also moved up six spots during round two of the Travis Roy Memorial Invite, hosted at The Powder Horn Golf Community by South Dakota Mines in Sheridan, Wyoming.
Knapp, a Rapid City native, drilled an eagle on the par-5 18th hole, going 451 yards from tee to pin in just three strokes. Knapp also added birdies on the par-4 No. 1, par-5 No. 2, par-3 No. 8 and par-4 No. 16. Her five birdies or better on Monday was tied for 8th in the 67-golfer field.
It all added up to a round of 2-over-par 74, a big improvement from Knapp's opening-round 85. Knapp moved up 23 spots, the single largest leaderboard gain in the field on Monday, into a tie for 16th place in the standings at 15-over 159.
Sophomore Macy Kleve had the second-best second round among Chadron State golfers, carding a 10-over 82. Kleve strung together a run of 10 consecutive pars from holes 2-12.
Junior Klara Kleinig is CSC's second-highest golfer in the overall standings, tied for 41st place at 26-over 170 after an 86 on Monday and a Sunday 84. Kleve is one stroke behind, tied for 44th place at 27-over 171.
Maggie Teague matched Kleinig's 86 during Monday's action to complete CSC's four team scores. Teague sits tied for 47th at 30-over 174.
After finishing round one on Monday morning with a team-best 81, junior Brooklyn Tychsen had a difficult round two, carding a 24-over-par 96. Tychsen is 33-over 177 through 36 holes. Taegan Bach shot a 110 on Monday and is in 61st out of the 67 competing golfers with her two-day total of 211.
In the team standings, Chadron State remained in ninth place out of 12 competing programs, but went back-and-forth for much of the day with eighth-place Saint Martin's. The Saints are just two strokes ahead of the Eagles entering Tuesday's round three, with seventh-place Colorado Mesa and 10th-place South Dakota Mines each over 20 strokes in opposite directions of CSC's total. Aside from the Hardrockers, the Eagles are also ahead of 11th-place Black Hills State and 12th-place Adams State.
At the top, Westmont shot 11-over as a team to climb from third after one round to first after two rounds. The PacWest institution from Santa Barbara, California leads by five strokes over Westminster and eight strokes over CSU Pueblo.
