Anthony Simmons came to Chadron State from Idaho State and had three outstanding years at tailback with the Eagles in the late 1990s.

He carried the ball 435 times for 2,537 yards, a 5.8-yard average, and 15 touchdowns. He also caught 57 passes for 666 yards for an 11.7-yard average, the highest for a CSC running back, and three more TDs. His rushing yardage was fourth highest when he graduated.

He was especially busy in 1997, rushing 175 times for 1,060 yards and eight touchdowns, including the winning TD on a 12-yard run when CSC defeated Nebraska-Kearney.

He was first-team all-RMAC and Nebraska NCAA Division II in both 1997 and ’99. He also was a sprinter for the CSC track team and placed third in the 55 meters at RMAC indoor meets twice.

After graduating, Simmons played in the Indoor Football League in Wyoming, Montana and Washington. In 2000 he set league records with a 58-yard kickoff return (the longest possible), most touchdowns in a game with 10 and most yards rushing in a game with 214. During this time, he had a workout with the Buffalo Bills.

Anthony’s wife, the former Angela Dewald, is a Chadron State alumna. They have two children, Malachi and Azara. The family lives in Sheridan, Wyoming, where he is the football and track coach at NSI Academy and she is an investment advisor.
