John Chancy came to Chadron State from Florida and was a rare four-year starter in the offensive line for the Eagles. He became a starter at right tackle midway through his redshirt freshman year and was at left tackle the next three years.

The Eagles averaged 396 yards in total offense his sophomore year and more than 400 the next two seasons. They were RMAC co-champions both his junior and senior seasons and were in the NCAA Division II playoffs in 1998.

John earned first-team all-RMAC and made the Omaha World-Herald’s All-NCAA II Nebraska team as a senior in 1999. He also made the second-team all-West Regional team that season.

His bio saluting the seniors in the Chadron State 2000 media guide said he had “good feet and balance to go with size
(6-4, 270 pounds) and strength that continued to improve.”

He came to Chadron State because his father and some Florida friends had purchased land near Fort Robinson for hunting purposes. They still own the land and John hunted doves there in September and will return for the deer season in November. “It’s the only place I’m ever at except at home,” he said.

He owns an insurance business in Woodville, Fla. He met his wife, the former Sunny Bell, a native of Newcastle, Wyo., at CSC. They have two children, Annabell and John Richter.
