Chadron State College Athletic Hall of Fame
Smith established himself as one of the top sprinters in Chadron State and RMAC history during his three-year Eagle career. He had an astonishing 11 top three individual RMAC Meet finishes and was the 2007 outdoor 200-meter RMAC champion and the 2008 indoor 200 RMAC winner.
He still has the second and third-fastest 100-meter times in Chadron State history (10.34 and 10.45) and has the second-fastest outdoor 200 time (20.96). In addition, Michael anchored the winning 4x100 relay team at the RMAC Outdoor Meet his senior year.
Also an outstanding student, he was named to the District All-Academic Team and graduated cum laude. After earning a Master’s Degree at Adams State, Smith returned to his home state of Arizona to teach and coach in high schools.
During that tenure he has coached four state champion cross country or track teams, six individual state champions and numerous others who earned runner-up honors. He and his wife RoseMarie live in Marana, which is near Tucson.
