Ottoson was a hard-throwing pitcher for some of the fine baseball teams Chadron State had in the late 1960s. He was an all-district selection in 1968, and ranks second on the college’s career victory list with 14. He was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 1967 and played for the Valentine Hearts in the highly-respected Basin League that summer.
After graduating, Ottoson was a recreation director at Winnetka, Ill., until 1975 when he returned to his hometown of Potter, Neb. He worked for a number of years in the automobile business in the southern Panhandle.
