Undoubtedly, Don White should have been inducted into the Chadron State Athletic Hall of Fame long ago. He was an offensive lineman as a freshman on the 1969 team. He did not play in the fall of 1970, but rejoined the Eagles in the spring of 1971 and started at linebacker and placekicker the next two years.

In the fall of ’71, he participated in 46 tackles, intercepted two passes and recovered a fumble. In addition, he booted four field goals and 22 extra points.

His banner season in 1972 was highlighted by recovering eight fumbles. He also was the Eagles’ fourth leading tackler with 25 unassisted and 77 assisted stops.

Also in 1972, White was the Eagles’ leading scorer with 39 points. He returned one of his fumble recoveries for a touchdown, booted four field goals, and made 18 extra points. At the end of the season, White was named to the Nebraska College Conference and NAIA District 11 first-teams.

While at CSC, White was captain of the FCA huddle, president of Blue Key, a member of the Student Senate, and met and married Cheri Holsclaw.

Before leaving Chadron, White was on the staff at Chadron Community Church seven years. He then was an associate pastor at the Northfield Church in Gering for five years. In 1985, the family moved to Omaha.

The Whites have four children and eight grandchildren.
