Chadron State College Athletic Hall of Fame
Zak Kennedy, a 6-foot-5 forward from Stanton, Nebraska, started nearly 100 games for Chadron State College, shot 48.4 percent from the field, poured in exactly 1,200 points, grabbed 537 rebounds, handed out 168 assists and came up with
114 steals.
He had a school record five dunks in a game his sophomore season. During his junior year in 1999-2000, the Eagles went 19-8
and defeated Metro State, which went on to win the NCAA Division II National Championship.
Kennedy closed his college career on a high note in 2000-01. He was the Eagles’ leading scorer in each of the final seven games when he shot 62 percent from the field and averaged 23 points. For the year, he averaged 15.4 points and 6.0 rebounds.
At the end of that season, he was named to the Nebraska NCAA Division II First Team and was placed on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s Second Team.
He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Chadron State. He is the senior finance director for Serta Simmons, a large bedding firm, at Hoffman Estates, Illinois, near Chicago. He and his wife, Lee, have a daughter, Paige.
