Tracy was a Colorado high school state champion high jumper and became a three-time All-American in that event at Chadron State. He is the only CSC athlete to clear 7 feet both indoors and outdoors. As a freshman in 1993, he went 6-11 at the first outdoor meet to set the school record and cleared 7-0 at the second meet. He also won the high jump at the RMAC Meet by going 6-10 and went 6-9 to place eighth at the NCAA Division II National Meet. The following year, Heiman was first at the RMAC Indoor Meet by clearing 6-10 and two weeks later won the D II National Indoor Meet championship at 6-9 ¾.  He cleared 7-0 for the second time in his career that spring indoors at Black Hills State.  During the 1994 outdoor season, he had a best of 6-10, tied for first at the RMAC Meet and shared third place at the National Outdoor Meet by going 6-9. Both Tracy and his wife, the former Erica Nolan, graduated from CSC in 1995. They have two sons. He teaches in the Ralston Schools near Omaha.
