A graduate of Niobrara County High School at Lusk, Kit was an excellent thrower for the Eagles.
Somewhat uncanny, she earned the same placings in the shot put at the RMAC indoor and outdoor meets each of her three years of competition.
She was third at both in 1993, won the event both indoors and outdoors in 1994 and was second at both meets in ’95.
She became an All-American at the NCAA Division II National Indoor Championships in 1994, when she placed seventh. She also qualified for the outdoor nationals that spring and finished ninth, one spot away from earning a medal.
In 1995, Kit qualified for the indoor nationals, but was injured during the preliminaries and did not reach the finals.
Her career-best marks are 45- ½ indoors in ‘95 and 43-9 ¾ outdoors in ’94. She improved immensely in the discus during her career, hitting a career-best 131-8 and finishing fourth at the RMAC Meet in 1995.
Kit and her husband Cliff Bennett live in Wheatland, Wyo., where she is the Platte County chief deputy clerk. They have two sons, Conner and Kaden. She also has an older daughter, Kelsie, who is married and lives in Gillette, Wyo.
