Hermsen took some lumps his first two years while helping the team by filling the 190-pound weight class, even though he weighed less than 180. He redshirted in 1994-95 and then competed at 177 his final two years, going 28-14 and 29-9. He qualified for the national tournament both years.

As a junior, Hermsen was first at the Fort Hays State Tournament and third at the University of Wyoming’s Cowboy Open and the Nebraska- Kearney Open. Later that season, he won three of his four matches at the West Regional Tournament to place third and qualify for nationals.

As a senior in 1996-97, Hermsen placed at every tournament the Eagles entered, including first at the West Regional.
When Hermsen graduated, his 83 victories were eighth on CSC’s all-time list.

Ed is a mortgage banker/loan officer in Fort Collins, Colo., his hometown.

He and his wife Tracie have three sons: Hunter, Luke, and Levi, and he helps coach their athletic teams.
