Schulz was the Eagles’ starter at right offensive tackle most of his career. The exception was the last half of his redshirt freshman season when he was injured. He returned to the position the following year and was a stalwart there for three seasons.
Coach Bill O’Boyle said Schulz “had everything you’d want in a tackle.” Because he ran so well, he often pulled and ran interference for CSC backs on counter plays.
Chadron State won or shared the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s championship three of the four years Schulz and the other football players who are being inducted this year were on the team. He was a first team all-conference and all-Nebraska selection and a second team West Region choice as a junior. He also was second team all-conference as a senior.
Schulz concluded his career by being the fourth Eagle chosen to play in the Snow Bowl, a Division II all-star game at Fargo, North Dakota. He also played in the Montana Shrine Game after earning Class AA all-state honors while playing for West High School in Billings.
Schulz’s wife, the former Alicia Leuthard of Kemmerer, Wyoming, also graduated from CSC in the spring of 2000. They have three daughters: Macee, Lennon and Ashton. Brad is the manufacturing manager for SoundTraxx in Durango, Colorado. The firm specializes in sound and control systems for model trains. Alicia works at Fort Lewis College.
