Haberman was a three-year starter at linebacker for the Eagles after transferring from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He was one of CSC’s top three tacklers each of those years. He was selected as Chadron State’s outstanding player his senior year in 1982, when the Eagles were 6-2. During his career, he participated in 276 tackles, recovered two fumbles, intercepted two passes and broke up eight more. His father, the late Rex Haberman of Imperial, was a state senator during Phil’s playing days at CSC, and was a major contributor to the CSC football program, both financially and through his enthusiatic support. Phil is now a pathologist living in Cheyenne, Wyo., where he also has a large equestrian center.
