Matt Strand, who also started two years for the men’s basketball team, was the Eagles’ starting quarterback for three years, completing 569 of 1,036 passes for 7,461 yards and 56 touchdowns. He also ran for 774 yards and seven TDs and was the
team’s punter his final two seasons.
As a senior in 2001, Strand led the Eagles to a 10-0 regular season record. He earned offensive player of the week honors six
times, including National Player of the Week.
Following his senior season, Strand was the first Chadron State quarterback to earn first-team all-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference honors and was voted the league’s Offensive Player of the Year. He was one of 24 candidates for the Harlon
Hill Award that goes annually to the football player selected as the best in NCAA II and was named captain of the Omaha World-Herald’s Nebraska’s NCAA Division II team.
The following summer, the Omaha World-Herald chose Strand as its State College Male Athlete of the Year.
Since graduating from CSC in May 2002 with a major in business, Strand has been involved in banking, much of the time in Casper, Wyoming, where he also played quarterback for the Wyoming Cavalry in the National Indoor Football League for nearly a
decade. Strand and his wife, Dawn, and their two children now live in Glendale, Arizona.
