Emily Volkmer Cheetsos came to Chadron State from Kearney and placed in all three of her events—high hurdles, long jump and triple jump—both indoors and outdoors at the conference meets four consecutive years, or 24 times. She was the RMAC triple jump champion three times, and placed in it at national meets five times to earn All-American laurels.

With Amanda Owens and Emily Volkmer leading the way when they were seniors,  the Chadron State women’s team placed second at the RMAC Indoor Championships with 160 points and third at the Outdoor
Meet with 180 points.  Both totals remain the Eagles’ all-time highs at RMAC Meet.

Volkmer scored 21 points at both meets.  Owens scored 16 at the indoor meet and 33 ½ outdoors.

Volkmer still holds Chadron State’s top four triple jump marks indoors and has four of the five longest jumps outdoors.  She is the Eagles’ indoor triple jump record-holder at 40 feet, ¼ inch and owns the outdoor record of 41-9.  The latter jump set the conference record at the 2005 RMAC Meet.  Her husband, Nathan Cheetsos, was also a track athlete at Chadron State.  They live in his hometown of Norfolk and have two boys and a girl.
