Chadron State College Athletic Hall of Fame
Beran was the first football player to earn both All-American and Academic All-American honors. He also was the Omaha World-Herald’s Nebraska State College Athlete of the Year in 2000, becoming just the third Eagle to receive that honor.
Beran also earned All-RMAC and All-Nebraska NCAA Division II first-team honors at defensive end in 1996, 1998 and 1999 – he missed most of the ’97 season with a torn ACL – and was selected as the outstanding defensive player for both all-star teams as a senior in ’99. In addition, he was a consensus All-American.
The Sargent native also was a three-time First Team Farm All-American as selected by “Successful Farming Magazine” and Dodge Trucks. He participated in 182 tackles during his career, including 35 sacks for the CSC record. Not to be forgotten, he scored 11 touchdowns after moving to fullback when the Eagles neared the goal line and used the power I-formation. In 2013, Casey was inducted into the RMAC Hall of Fame and in 2014 he was named to the All-Century Football Team.
His brother Cory was also a standout defensive lineman at CSC.
Beran graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2004 and is an orthopedic surgeon with CHI Health at Creighton University. His wife, Molly, is an obstetrician.
