Kalan Jones became a starting outside linebacker as a redshirt freshman in 2003, when he made nine tackles for minus yardage and returned an interception 70 yards for a touchdown.  His sophomore season was cut short by a broken leg.  But he started every game the next two years and was a team captain both seasons.  As a junior, he was RMAC Second-Team, then moved up to first-team, was tabbed Nebraska NCAA Division II First-Team by the Omaha World-Herald and was selected as the Eagles’ Outstanding Defensive Player as a senior in 2006.

Jones had 171 tackles in his career, 114 of them unassisted, 17 ½ of them quarterback sacks and 27 ½ for 137 negative yards. He was the Chadron State homecoming king in 2005 and the Clyde Bond Memorial Award recipient the next year. Besides his CSC Hall of Fame induction, he was inducted into the Grand Island High School Hall of Fame last Saturday. He played both running back and linebacker and was on an all-class state champion 400-meter relay team with the Islanders.

Kalan was an environmental science major at CSC, and is involved in controlling invasive plants in Oxford, Ohio. He and his wife Angela have three sons.
