Stacy Girard had an outstanding track career at Chadron State College, as she remains the only Chadron State distance runner, male or female, to earn First Team All American honors.
When Stacy graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2009, she owned six school records and earned All-American honors by placing fifth in the 1500 meters at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships in Pomona, California with a school-record time of 4:33.51.
During her career, Girard won 17 races spanning from the 800 to the 5,000 meters and was the runner up-seven times. She placed at RMAC Championships seven times, and as a sophomore in 2007, she qualified to run the mile at the NCAA Division II National Indoor Meet in Boston, where her time of 4:58.58 was another of her school records.
Although foot injuries caused her to miss most of her senior season, including two races where she had already posted qualifying times for nationals, there’s an unlikely footnote to her career.
In 2013, while Girard was taking graduate courses at CSC, Coach Ryan Bailey invited her to join his cross country team for the RMAC Meet.
She led the Eagles by placing 22nd. Two weeks later, at the South Central Regional Meet, Girard lowered her time by 56 seconds and finished 14th among the 152 entries to earn all region honors.
Stacy and her husband, John Girard, are both Alliance, Nebraska natives. They have three children—Malachi, Bristol and Asa. Girard has taught special education, coached and helped sponsor Christian groups at CSC.
